Black Lives Matter: Las Vidas Negras Importan

Friends of the Earth International condemns the systemic police violence and state-authorized killings of Black individuals in the United States, specifically citing the deaths of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, Tony McDade, and Ahmaud Arbery. The organization links this violence to environmental racism and the disproportionate impact of COVID-19 on Black communities. It further criticizes the Trump administration's perceived support for white nationalism and the militarization of national life, arguing that such actions encourage repressive regimes worldwide. The statement calls for the United States to address its historical injustices rooted in slavery and genocide and to respect the democratic rights of protest, expression, and association.

• The organization identifies systemic police violence in the United States as a series of grave human rights violations and an abuse of state power, specifically mentioning the murders of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, Tony McDade, and Ahmaud Arbery.
• Environmental racism and the disproportionate effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on Black communities are cited as further examples of violent denial against people of color in the U.S.
• The Trump administration is accused of implicitly supporting white nationalism and utilizing lethal force to silence dissent, which the document claims represents a shift toward fascism and encourages global repressive regimes.
• The document asserts that the United States must address historical injustices stemming from the genocide of Indigenous Peoples and the enslavement of African peoples to repair intergenerational suffering.
