L’assassinat de personnes autochtones se poursuit aux Philippines, tout comme les graves violations des droits humains

A statement by Friends of the Earth International condemning the assassination of Datu Victor Danyan and seven others by Philippine armed forces on December 3, 2017, in the context of land disputes involving Consunji-owned coffee and coal enterprises.

• On December 3, 2017, the Philippine armed forces assassinated Datu Victor Danyan, two of his sons, his son-in-law, and four other community members on their ancestral territory in Lake Sebu, South Cotabato.
• The T’boli–Manubo Sdaf Claimants Organization (TAMASCO) and Datu Victor have been fighting human rights violations by Consunji-owned companies, which have encroached on ancestral lands for coal mining and coffee plantations.
• A 25-year initial operating permit for a Consunji coffee plantation, which expired in 2016, was extended through legal manipulations without the free, prior, and informed consent of the T’boli-Manobo communities.
• The assassination occurred one week after the Duterte government suspended peace talks with the Communist Party of the Philippines and announced a crackdown on suspected communist rebels; the document rejects the military's attempt to label Datu Victor as a communist, noting his peaceful legal struggle since 1991.
• Friends of the Earth International calls on the Duterte government to prosecute those responsible for the attacks on the T’Boli-Manobos and to cancel coal and coffee plantation permits in TAMASCO ancestral domains.
