En solidaridad con el Pueblo Lenca

A statement by Amigos de la Tierra de América Latina y el Caribe (ATALC) expressing solidarity with the Lenca people and condemning a report by a mission hired by the FMO regarding the Agua Zarca project in Honduras.

• ATALC rejects a report produced by a mission hired by the FMO (Entrepreneurial Development Bank) concerning the construction of the Agua Zarca project in Honduras, arguing that such reports attempt to discredit community actions to legitimize projects funded by foreign capital.
• The document links violence against social leaders, including the murders of Berta Cáceres, leaders from COPINH and MILPAH, Tolupan indigenous people, and over one hundred members of peasant organizations in Aguan and Valle de Sula, to unequal trade treaties with the United States and Europe.
• ATALC calls upon the Netherlands, Finland, and Spain—as majority shareholders of the financiers of Agua Zarca and other dams in Honduras—to stop funding projects that violate human rights in Latin America based on their extraterritorial obligations.
• The statement condemns the theft of the judicial file containing details of Berta Cáceres' murder in Tegucigalpa, describing the event as a grave obstruction of justice.
