Sri Lanka Revolving Funds: Building community resilience

In the Nilgala region of Sri Lanka, CEJ/FoE Sri Lanka and the International Union for the Conservation of Nature Sri Lanka established a revolving fund to support over 500 families across 10 villages. By providing loans at a 1% interest rate, the fund serves as an alternative to high-interest moneylenders and microcredit programmes, helping communities manage health emergencies and cultivation costs. The initiative has doubled its original capital of 800,000 Sri Lankan Rupees (US$5,500) and is linked to improved forest management and community resilience.
