• The laws were passed in September 2020 through a process described as questionable, lacking consultation with state governments and accelerated during covid-19 lockdowns. Protests involving marches to New Delhi have faced state repression, including the use of tear gas and water cannons, resulting in the arrest of leaders and at least 15 deaths.
• Friends of the Earth International demands that the Indian government revoke the three agricultural laws, revoke the Electricity (Amendment) Act 2020, provide legal guarantees for the Assured Minimum Price, and release political prisoners.
