Audiencia a los imputados por el asesinato de Berta Cáceres en Honduras

A statement by ATALC and ATI regarding a June 7 hearing in Tegucigalpa, Honduras, for four of the eight individuals accused of murdering indigenous leader Berta Cáceres.

• ATALC and ATI call for the full clarification of the responsibilities and interests behind the March 2016 murder of Lenca indigenous leader Berta Cáceres, arguing that identifying the intellectual authors and the interests that drove the crime is essential to ending impunity in Honduras and other Mesoamerican and Latin American countries.
• The organizations assert that without clarifying the interests behind the murder, guarantees of non-repetition cannot be established for Honduran communities, organizations, and movements—including peasant and indigenous groups—who face persecution, criminalization, and murder while defending their territories.
