En solidaridad con OFRANEH y las/os luchadores sociales en Honduras

A statement by Friends of the Earth Latin America and the Caribbean expressing solidarity with social fighters and indigenous organizations in Honduras, specifically denouncing the criminalization of OFRANEH members and threats against the Lenca people.

• At least four members of the Organización Fraternal Negra de Honduras (OFRANEH) have been criminalized. This occurs amid land dispossession processes in Guadalupe intended to benefit foreign capital, where OFRANEH members are accused of usurping land that is part of a community title granted to the Guadalupe community.
• The Lenca people of Río Blanco are reportedly in a state of defenselessness due to the presence of armed men and constant threats against territorial defenders, as reported by the Consejo Cívico de Organizaciones Populares e Indígenas de Honduras (COPINH).
• Friends of the Earth Latin America and the Caribbean calls on the Honduran government to guarantee land rights according to constitutional precepts, the collective rights of Garifuna communities via community titles, and the provisions of ILO Convention 169.
