A statement by Friends of the Earth International arguing that the planetary climate and social crises cannot be solved within the current dominant economic system, calling instead for a systemic change based on people's sovereignty and environmental justice.

• The current dominant economic system is viewed as incapable of providing solutions to the climate crisis because it is based on a logic of unlimited growth, profit, and the accumulation of wealth and power among a few, which enables transnational corporations and national elites to exploit people and their livelihoods.
• Addressing climate change and associated social and environmental crises requires dismantling structural causes, specifically the privatization, financialization, and commodification of nature and society, as well as unsustainable production and consumption systems.
• A systemic transition in energy requires more than just technological changes or promoting renewables; it necessitates ending dependence on fossil fuels, dismantling corporate control of energy, and establishing public and community ownership and control to ensure a just transition for workers and communities.
• Achieving food sovereignty and combating destructive industrial agriculture requires a radical transformation of the food system through agroecology, valuing local knowledge, and guaranteeing rights to land, water, and seeds.
• Protecting biodiversity and forests is most effective when managed by the communities living within them, yet only 8% of the world's forests are currently community-managed.
