Court hearing of the accused of Berta Cáceres’ murder in Honduras

A statement by Friends of the Earth International (FoEI) and ATALC regarding a June 7 court hearing in Tegucigalpa, Honduras, involving four of the eight individuals accused of murdering indigenous leader Berta Cáceres.

• FoEI and ATALC demand the identification of both the actual and intellectual perpetrators of Berta Cáceres' March 2016 murder, as well as the interests behind the crime, to end impunity in Honduras and other Latin American and Mesoamerican countries.
• The organizations argue that failing to identify the interests driving the murder prevents the protection of Honduran peasant and indigenous communities, organizations, and movements that face persecution, criminalization, and murder for defending their territories.
