Rechazo al hostigamiento a Berta Zúñiga Cáceres y al COPINH

Friends of the Earth Latin America and the Caribbean (ATALC) issued a statement on December 12, 2017, condemning the harassment of Berta Zúñiga, coordinator of the Civic Council of Popular and Indigenous Organizations of Honduras (COPINH), and other members of the organization by military forces.

• On December 12, 2017, Berta Zúñiga, the coordinator of the Civic Council of Popular and Indigenous Organizations of Honduras (COPINH), and other members of the organization were subjected to harassment when their vehicle was detained by military personnel.
• The harassment occurred within a broader national context of repression following popular mobilizations protesting alleged electoral fraud in the elections held on November 26. Despite the lifting of a state of siege and curfew, ATALC asserts that actions by military and police forces increase the vulnerability of social activists under the regime of Juan Orlando Hernández.
