Rechazo al hostigamiento a Berta Zúñiga Cáceres y al COPINH

The document is a statement by Friends of the Earth Latin America and the Caribbean (ATALC) condemning the detention of Berta Zúñiga, coordinator of the Civic Council of Popular and Indigenous Organizations of Honduras (COPINH), by military forces on December 12. ATALC describes this as an act of harassment that increases vulnerability for social activists and territorial defenders within a broader national context of repression following the November 26 elections under the regime of Juan Orlando Hernández.

• On December 12, military forces detained the vehicle transporting Berta Zúñiga, the coordinator of the Civic Council of Popular and Indigenous Organizations of Honduras (COPINH), and other members of the organization, which ATALC characterizes as a clear act of harassment.
• This harassment occurs amidst a national climate of repression and popular mobilizations protesting alleged electoral fraud in the elections held on November 26, despite the lifting of the state of siege and curfew.
• ATALC asserts that actions by military and police forces under the regime of Juan Orlando Hernández increase the vulnerability of social fighters and hinder the legitimate exercise of territorial defense.
