Internationalist solidarity with Palestinian civil society

A statement by Friends of the Earth International and other social movements denouncing the Israeli government's designation of six Palestinian civil society organisations as terrorist organisations and calling for the reversal of these decrees.

• On October 19, 2021, Israeli Defense Minister Benny Gantz issued a military order designating six Palestinian civil society organisations as "terrorist organisations": Addameer, al-Haq, Defense for Children Palestine, the Union of Agricultural Work Committees (UAWC), Bisan Center for Research and Development, and the Union of Palestinian Women’s Committees. Subsequently, on November 7, the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) classified these organisations as "unauthorised," which allows for the seizure of assets, the closing of offices, and the arrest of staff and members.
• The Union of Agricultural Work Committees (UAWC), established in 1986, is the largest agricultural institution in Palestine. It focuses its work in 'Area C' of the West Bank, where the document states Israel has goals to annex the land and expand illegal settlements, including a plan announced shortly after Gantz's declaration to build 3,144 new illegal settlement homes.
• Frontline Defenders reported that six Palestinian human rights defenders, including individuals from the designated NGOs, were targeted with Pegasus spyware developed by NSO Group during 2020 and 2021. This is cited as evidence of the Israeli government's failure to regulate companies regarding human rights violations.
• The signatories call upon the international community, specifically the US government, European Governments, Members of the European Parliament, and the UN Human Rights Council, to demand the Israeli government rescind the terrorist designations and end the occupation of Palestinian lands.
