Still Misguided: The US continues to support oil & gas projects at the World Bank Group

A statement by Friends of the Earth criticizing the United States for failing to use its influence at the World Bank Group to stop the financing of oil and gas projects, noting recent commitments in Africa.

• Since October 2023, the International Finance Corporation (IFC) has committed to financing oil and gas projects in Nigeria and Mali, and is conducting feasibility evaluations for a Liquid Natural Gas import terminal in Morocco.
• Friends of the Earth asserts that the US Treasury is not utilizing its position as a major shareholder in the World Bank Group to oppose fossil fuel projects or advocate for greener alternatives.
