SOLIDARIDAD Y PROTECCIÓN INMEDIATA PARA OLIVIA BISA

The Latin American Network of the Fossil Fuel Non-Proliferation Treaty Initiative has issued a statement condemning threats against Olivia Bisa, a defender of the Chapra territory and recipient of the 2025 Global Environmental and Climate Justice Award. The network demands effective protection measures for Bisa and her family, a diligent investigation into the threats, and guaranteed safety for those defending the Amazon. The document emphasizes the role of Indigenous Peoples as the 'first line of defense' against fossil fuel expansion and advocates for a post-extractive world.

• Olivia Bisa, President of the Autonomous Territorial Government of the Chapra Nation in Peru, and her family, including her children, are facing threats to their lives and integrity.
• The Latin American Network demands three specific actions: the activation of effective protection measures for Olivia Bisa and her family, a due diligence investigation into the threats, and the guarantee of safe conditions for defenders of the Amazon and their territories.
• Indigenous Peoples are characterized as the primary defense against fossil fuel expansion, with their territorial relationship serving as the foundation for environmental and climate struggles.
