Renewable additions are booming

Global renewable capacity additions are projected to reach a record 793 GW in 2025, an 11% increase over 2024. This growth is primarily driven by solar energy and the significant deployment lead of China, which is expected to account for over two-thirds of global solar and wind installations in 2025.

• Global renewable capacity additions are forecast to reach a record 793 GW in 2025, representing an 11% increase from the 717 GW added in 2024. Within this growth, solar additions are expected to rise by 9% and wind by 21%.
• Solar energy is the primary driver of the deployment boom; annual solar additions in 2025 are projected to be four times higher than those in 2021. In 2025, solar additions are expected to be nearly five times the volume of wind additions.
• China is the leading contributor to global renewable growth, with 2025 forecasts indicating it will install 66% of the world's solar capacity and 69% of its wind capacity. This is a significant increase from 2022, when China's share of global solar and wind additions was 46% and 47% respectively.
