Türkiye’deki hibrit santrallere bakış
Summary
This report examines the development and performance of hybrid power plants in Türkiye, focusing on the integration of solar energy with wind and hydroelectric sources to optimize grid connection efficiency and production continuity.
Key insights
- Hybrid solar power capacity in Türkiye reached 1.4 GW by May 2025. While solar is the most preferred hybrid type due to cost and installation ease, only 41% of the 3.5 GW in production licenses granted as of May 2025 has been commissioned.
- Hybrid power plants were first introduced into Turkish legislation in March 2020, but growth was initially slow, with capacity remaining at 100 MW for the first two years. Regulatory changes in 2022 and 2023 expanded capacity limits, including the removal of a 15% capacity cap for non-wind plants in September 2022 and an increase in total distributable capacity to 1 GW in March 2023.
- There is a strong complementary relationship between run-of-river hydroelectric plants and solar plants. Run-of-river production peaks in April and May and declines in summer, while solar production peaks in summer. Hourly production data from 2024 shows a correlation of -0.13 between the two, which strengthens to -0.19 during May and August.
- In 2024, hybrid solar plants increased the electricity transmitted to the grid by 14% for 25 analyzed wind and hydroelectric plants. This resulted in the average connection capacity factor rising by 5 points to 32%. During peak summer months, hybrid solar added 7 points to the capacity factor of run-of-river plants, 6 points to dammed plants, and 10 points to wind plants in July.
