We must address racial inequality and injustice before we can meet the challenge of climate change

A statement by EESI Executive Director Daniel Bresette arguing that addressing racial inequality and injustice is a prerequisite for successfully meeting the challenges of climate change and achieving an equitable transition to a clean energy economy.

• The Environmental and Energy Study Institute (EESI) asserts that a just transition to a decarbonized, clean energy economy requires the representation of marginalized voices to ensure that the costs of climate action are not unfairly borne by the disadvantaged and that benefits are not limited to the well-off.
• EESI implements its commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion through specific initiatives, including working with utilities on on-bill financing to reduce energy burdens for low-income rural families and conducting Congressional briefings on resilient coastal communities, particularly marginalized neighborhoods affected by pollution and environmental disasters.
