Jack Egan

This case study profiles Jack Egan, a resident of the NSW South Coast and participant in the Hard Truths human rights case, who lost his home in Rosedale during the 2019-2020 Black Summer bushfires. • Jack Egan and his partner Cath lost their home in Rosedale on December 31, 2019, when the Currowan fire destroyed their property during the Black Summer bushfires. Despite having water tanks, hoses, a pump, and a written fire plan, the radiant heat caused the pump to catch fire and hoses to melt, forcing Egan to escape through a bedroom window after the front door timber swelled shut.
