President of Palau: If U.S. Won’t Lead, We All Will

A guest blog post by President Tommy Remengesau of Palau responding to the United States' decision to exit the Paris Agreement, detailing Palau's own climate commitments and calling for global leadership in the transition to clean energy.

• Palau has committed to transitioning to 100 percent clean energy and has implemented a national emissions reduction plan (Intended Nationally Determined Contribution) with the goal of reducing emissions by 50 percent by 2025.
• Palau has designated 80 percent of its maritime territory, totaling 193,000 square miles of ocean, as a no-take marine sanctuary, reserving the remaining 20 percent for domestic fishing to maintain food security.
• Despite the U.S. withdrawal, Remengesau identifies other entities continuing climate leadership, including the EU, China, Canada, the island of Hawai‘i, and various U.S. states and cities.
