Evaluation of a National High School Entertainment Education Program
Summary
The study assesses an 'edutainment' high school assembly program using a random sample of 49 schools and 1,241 students. Results indicate that the program positively influenced youth knowledge and behavior, shifting students into audience segments more engaged with climate change and inspiring further personal, political, and consumer advocacy.
Key insights
- Exposure to climate science through an engaging entertainment education format leads to positive changes in youth knowledge, beliefs, involvement, and behavior, shifting them into audience segments that are more engaged with the issue.
- Scaled, multi-sensory programs for youth have the potential to create a population-level shift in science-informed engagement regarding climate change and can motivate students toward deeper school involvement, personal action, and advocacy in political and consumer spheres.
