An open letter from the Civil Society Working Group on Health and Climate Change calling for the integration of climate and health education into the curricula of all health professional training institutions to prepare the workforce for environmental and climate-related health risks.

• Current global surveys indicate that climate change education for future doctors is unavailable worldwide and often student-led, with institutional support lacking as a primary barrier to integrating climate and health content into curricula.
• The Civil Society Working Group proposes four specific actions: integrating climate and health competencies into all health professional curricula and continuing professional development; providing a health perspective for climate education in other sectors; advocating for more funding for research and education; and sharing educational resources.
• The Global Consortium for Climate and Health Education has developed a 'Core Competencies' framework for all health professionals, which has been endorsed by the Association of American Medical Colleges and the Association of Schools and Programs of Public Health in both North America and the European region.
