• Global research indicates a lack of climate change education for future doctors, with existing programs often being student-led. A study of 160 medical institutions found that integrating climate and health materials is hindered by factors such as a lack of institutional support.
• The document proposes four specific actions to equip healthcare professionals: integrating climate and health competencies into all training and accreditation programs; using health criteria to develop climate education in other sectors; securing additional funding for research and education; and sharing educational resources.
• The Global Consortium for Climate and Health Education (GCCHE), which includes over 250 medical institutions across more than 40 countries, has developed a set of 'core competencies' for health workers. These were approved by the Association of American Medical Colleges and associations of schools of public health in North America and the European region.
