Low carbon buildings criteria: Peru region

This guide outlines the low carbon buildings criteria for the Peru region under the Climate Bonds Standard, focusing on the prohibition of fossil fuels for specific end uses, eligibility for social housing via the Mivivienda Verde Certificate, and energy emission reduction requirements for residential property upgrades.

• To avoid locking in greenhouse gas emissions, new buildings and renovated parts must be delivered without inbuilt redundancy and cannot use fossil fuels for cooking, hot water, and heating, ventilation, and air conditioning, with the exception of backup generators for emergency power.
• Social residential buildings in the Peru region are eligible for certification if they hold a Mivivienda Verde Certificate under the 11th Version Rating Scheme of the Mivivienda Sustainable Programme, prove equivalence to EDGE Certification, and comply with additional requirements for new buildings built after January 1, 2024.
• Residential property upgrades are eligible under the Climate Bonds Standard if they achieve a minimum operating energy emissions reduction of 30% for a 5-year bond, or a minimum of 50% reduction for a 30-year bond.
