Critérios de Originação de Produtos Agroalimentares Livres de Desmatamento e Conversão

The Climate Bonds Initiative has introduced certification criteria for agri-food products that are free from deforestation and the conversion of natural ecosystems. The framework applies to entities—such as traders, processors, and manufacturers—where at least 50% of revenue is generated from agri-food supply chains. It establishes a rigorous verification process involving a 31 December 2020 cut-off date, risk-based traceability, and mandatory human rights safeguards. The criteria align with the EU Deforestation Regulation (EUDR) for deforestation and the Accountability Framework initiative (AFi) for ecosystem conversion.

• The certification is available to agri-food entities, including traders, processors, and manufacturers, provided that at least 50% of their revenue is generated from agri-food supply chains.
• The criteria establish a cut-off date of 31 December 2020, meaning the requesting entity's supply chain must be free of deforestation and natural ecosystem conversion from that date forward.
• Traceability requirements vary by risk level: high-risk origins for cattle, cocoa, coffee, palm oil, cellulose, paper, and soy require geolocation of the production land (polygons for areas > 4ha or single points for < 4ha), while low-risk origins must be tracked to the country of origin or primary processing facility.
• The framework integrates international standards, following the EU Deforestation Regulation (EUDR) for deforestation requirements and the Accountability Framework initiative (AFi) for conversion requirements, as the latter is not currently covered by the EUDR.
• Certification requires the implementation of human rights and Free, Prior and Informed Consent (FPIC) safeguards at the producer level.
