• The Climate Bonds Standard and Certification Scheme is a voluntary labelling system for investments designed to align with the goal of limiting global temperature rise to 1.5°C above pre-industrial levels. Since its launch in 2012, the scheme has certified over USD270bn of Use of Proceeds Green Bonds.
• Entity Certification is available for non-financial corporate entities or segregated segments of such entities, excluding sovereigns, municipalities, local authorities, and financial institutions. Certification is only possible for entities or segments for which the Climate Bonds Initiative has established Climate Bonds Standard Sector Criteria.
• There are two levels of certification for entities based on their alignment with 1.5 degree pathways: Level 1 (Aligned) for entities already aligned or near net-zero, and Level 2 (Transition) for entities whose transition plans predict alignment by 2030.
• To be eligible for certification, at least 90% of the entity's total activities must be 'Eligible Activities'. Entities must have short, medium, and long-term Performance Targets aligned with Sector Specific Criteria, supported by a credible Transition Plan, business and finance plans, and a governance framework.
• Certification is valid for five years from the date of issuance. However, the entity is required to undergo external verification by a Climate Bonds Approved Verifier on an annual basis.
