Green Bond Fact Sheet

The Corporación Interamericana para el Financiamiento de Infraestructura (CIFI) issued a USD 200 million green bond programme on August 28, 2019, marking the first green bond issued in Panama.

• On August 28, 2019, the Corporación Interamericana para el Financiamiento de Infraestructura (CIFI), a financial corporate and infrastructure- and energy-focused bank based in Panama, issued a green bond programme totaling USD 200 million with a tenor of up to 12 years. This issuance is identified as the first green bond issued in Panama.
• The proceeds from the bond are designated for projects across several categories, including energy (solar, onshore wind, offshore wind, geothermal, and hydro under 25MW), water and wastewater (water treatment and wastewater treatment), waste management (recycling and pollution control), and general infrastructure.
• CIFI was established in 2001 and operates as a multinational bank with a shareholding structure comprising multilateral agencies, investment funds, and commercial banks. It has been involved in over 200 projects valued at more than USD 1.5 billion throughout the Caribbean and Latin America (LAC).
