Green Bond Fact Sheet

Reykjavik Energy issued a USD 29 million (ISK 3,528 million) green bond on February 18, 2019, with a 36-year tenor. The funds are earmarked for eight categories, primarily renewable energy, energy distribution, and water management. This issuance is the first in Iceland for 2019 and the third overall in the country.

• The bond proceeds are allocated across eight eligible categories: renewable energy (25%), energy distribution and management (25%), sustainable water and wastewater management (20%), products and technologies for smart grid applications (10%), carbon capture and storage at its geothermal power plant (5%), sustainable land use and environmental management (5%), clean transportation (5%), and circular economy activities (5%).
• Reykjavik Energy is the largest geothermal energy producer in Iceland and the parent company of ON Power, Veitur, and Gagnaveita Reykjavikur. As of 2017, the company employed 509 people and operated using 99% renewable energy.
• This issuance marks the first Icelandic green bond of 2019 and is only the third bond and issuer overall in the country. It is the second green bond issued by a government-backed entity in Iceland.
