Green Bond Fact Sheet

Citigroup issued a EUR1bn (USD1.14bn) green bond on 29-Jan-2019 to fund projects in renewable energy, buildings, transport, and water. It is the second largest green bond from a US commercial bank and the third such bank to enter the market. The bond follows the Climate Bonds Taxonomy and includes specific emission limits for geothermal and biofuel projects.

• Citigroup issued a green bond on 29-Jan-2019 with a total amount of EUR1bn (USD1.14bn), a maturity date of 29-Jan-2022, and a tenor of 3 years. This issuance represents the second largest green bond from a US commercial bank, following a USD2.25bn deal by Bank of America in May 2018.
• The proceeds from the bond are designated for lending across four primary categories: renewable energy (including solar, onshore wind, geothermal, and biofuels), buildings (specifically certified buildings and energy performance), transport (including electric vehicles, passenger trains, and urban rail), and water & wastewater (including distribution, treatment, and storage).
• Specific eligibility criteria are applied to certain projects: geothermal and biofuel projects must emit less than 100gCO2/kWh. Additionally, the Green Bond Framework allows for the financing and refinancing of property-related energy efficiency loans.
• Citigroup is the third US commercial bank to enter the green bond market, joining Bank of America and Morgan Stanley. The issuer has stated that all assets in the portfolio, other than those with specific geothermal criteria, are compliant with the Climate Bonds Taxonomy.
• Reporting on the bond will be conducted via the Green Bond Report, which will disclose the total assets in the Green Bond Asset Portfolio, the total outstanding amount raised, details of eligible assets and financial commitments, any unallocated proceeds, and environmental impacts where practical.
