Green Bond Fact Sheet

The City of Columbia, South Carolina, issued a USD 37.9 million Certified Climate Bond on December 19, 2018, to finance and refinance stormwater assets. This issuance represents the first Certified Climate Bond from a US local government outside of New York and California, and the first in South Carolina.

• On December 19, 2018, the City of Columbia issued a US Municipal green bond totaling USD 37.9 million with a maturity date of February 1, 2048 and a tenor of 30 years.
• The bond's proceeds are designated for the financing and refinancing of stormwater assets that meet either Nature-Based or Engineered Water Infrastructure Criteria.
• This issuance is the first Certified Climate Bond from a US local government located outside of California and New York, and the first such certified bond from South Carolina.
• The bond was certified under the Water Infrastructure standard and verified by Sustainalytics, with credit ratings of AA+ from S&P and Aa2 from Moody’s.
