Green Bond Fact Sheet

Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power issued a USD600m Green Bond on 25-Jul-2018 to fund renewable energy, clean transport, and green buildings in South Korea and overseas. The issuer, a subsidiary of KEPCO, provides 28% of South Korea's electricity. This issuance contributed to a 2018 cumulative total of USD3.6bn in Korean green bonds.

• Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power, a government-backed entity and subsidiary of the Korea Electric Power Corporation (KEPCO), issued a USD600m Green Bond on 25-Jul-2018 with a maturity date of 25-Jul-2023.
• The proceeds from the bond are designated for financing and refinancing green buildings, clean transport, and renewable energy both in South Korea and internationally. Eligible hydropower includes run-of-river plants and those with capacity up to 20MW, as well as safety and energy performance upgrades for existing facilities. Bioenergy must use biomass from sawdust, low-grade wood fibre pellets, and other wood industry byproducts. Green buildings must meet standards such as BREEAM Very Good, LEED Gold, or the national Green Standard for Energy and Environmental Design (G-SEED).
• Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power operates hydroelectric, large nuclear, and other renewable power plants that provide 28% of the electricity supply in South Korea.
• This issuance marked the second Korean green bond issuer to enter the market in 2018, contributing to a total cumulative issuance for the country of USD3.6bn.
