Green Bond Fact Sheet

This fact sheet details a USD 303 million green bond issued by Eólica Mesa La Paz, S. de R. L. de C. V. on 1 June 2018 to fund an onshore wind farm in Mexico.

• Eólica Mesa La Paz, S. de R. L. de C. V. issued a USD 303 million private placement green bond on 1 June 2018 with a maturity date of 1 June 2044 and a tenor of 26 years. The bond received a green bond rating of E1/91 from S&P.
• The proceeds of the bond are dedicated to partially funding the construction of a 306MW onshore wind farm in the Mexican state of Tamaulipas. This project consists of 85 turbines and was expected to begin operations by September 2019.
• The wind farm project is supported by a 25-year Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with Fuentes de Energia Peñoles, which is guaranteed by the metals producer Industrias Peñoles.
• This issuance represents two milestones: it was the first green bond in Mexico in 2018 and the first ever non-financial corporate issuance from the country.
• The project aligns with Mexican Government energy goals to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 30% by 2020 and increase clean energy electricity generation to 35% by 2024 and 50% by 2050.
