Green Bond Fact Sheet

A fact sheet detailing the issuance of the first sovereign green bond from the Republic of Lithuania on May 3, 2018, intended to fund energy efficiency renovations for multi-apartment buildings.

• The Republic of Lithuania issued a 10-year sovereign green bond on May 3, 2018, with a total amount of EUR 20 million (USD 23.9 million) and a maturity date of May 3, 2028.
• The proceeds from the bond are designated to finance a loan to the Public Investment Development Agency (VIPA) for the purpose of improving energy efficiency and reducing heating costs in 156 multi-apartment buildings.
• This issuance represents the first sovereign green bond from Lithuania and the second such bond in the Central and Eastern Europe (CEE) region. The majority of the issue was purchased by an investor from Austria.
• Reporting on the bond's impact will be a two-step process: the Housing and Energy Saving Agency (BETA) will report on GHG emissions, the number of buildings modernised, and energy performance before and after modernisation, which will then be collated into an annual performance report by the Public Investment Development Agency (VIPA).
