Green Bond Fact Sheet

• The Kingdom of Belgium issued a green sovereign bond (Green OLO) on March 5, 2018, totaling EUR 4.5 billion (USD 5.5 billion) with a maturity date of April 22, 2033, and a coupon of 1.250%.
• At the time of issuance, this was the second largest sovereign green bond, surpassed only by the French EUR 9.7 billion green OAT.
• The proceeds are primarily allocated to clean transport (85%), including EUR 2.2 billion for railway projects and domestic passenger trains for the benefit of SNCB. Other eligible categories under the Green OLO Framework include renewable energy, circular economy, energy efficiency, and living resources and land use.
• The bond issuance saw high demand, with total bids exceeding EUR 12.7 billion from over 150 accounts. The investor base was composed of Fund Managers (33%), Central Banks and Official Institutions (26%), and Pension Funds (16%), with the majority of demand coming from the Eurozone (53%), followed by non-Euro zone Europe (23%) and Asia (12%).
