Transition finance for transforming companies

The Climate Bonds Initiative proposes a framework called the 'Five Hallmarks of a Credibly Transitioning Company' to assess the credibility of corporate decarbonisation efforts and support the certification of non-financial corporates and Sustainability-Linked Bonds (SLBs).

• Climate Bonds has introduced the 'Five Hallmarks of a Credibly Transitioning Company' to identify companies whose transition is sufficient to align with the Paris Agreement's goals of nearly halving emissions by 2030 and reaching net zero by 2050. The five hallmarks are: Paris-aligned targets, Robust plans, Implementation action, Internal monitoring, and External reporting.
• The proposed framework shifts the assessment of corporate transitions from relative measures, such as sector benchmarking or 'best in class' comparisons, toward absolute measures tied to transition pathways common to all actors in a sector.
• Climate Bonds is utilizing these Hallmarks to develop two market tools: an expansion of the Climate Bonds Standard and Certification Scheme to certify SLBs and non-financial corporates (including those already near zero or transitioning to align with 1.5 degree pathways), and an expansion of market screening and data provision for all SLBs in the market.
