• States are obligated under human rights duties to provide effective remedies for climate harm and address the root causes of the crisis, specifically through the regulation of financial backers and fossil fuel corporations, which are identified as bearing the greatest responsibility.
• The OHCHR report identifies several key solutions for climate action, including the transition away from fossil fuels, scaling up gender-responsive and grants-based climate finance, recognizing Indigenous Peoples' knowledge, ensuring effective participation of vulnerable people in climate action design, providing compensation for loss and damage, and increasing protection for environmental defenders targeted by corporate actors.
