CIEL statement on US AGs announcement of Climate Action Coalition and investigation into fossil fuel companies

CIEL President Carroll Muffett supports the collaboration of US state Attorneys General in investigating fossil fuel companies for climate deception, noting that five jurisdictions—New York, California, Maryland, Massachusetts, and the US Virgin Islands—have confirmed investigations into Exxon.

• A coalition of US state Attorneys General is using investigative cooperation to examine evidence of climate-related "misinformation", "deception" and "fraud" by Exxon and other companies that worked to undermine climate science.
• As of March 29, 2016, five jurisdictions have confirmed investigations into the #ExxonKnew matter: New York, California, Maryland, Massachusetts, and the US Virgin Islands.
