Examen des annexes REACH relatives aux nanomatériaux – Exposé de position

This position paper examines proposed May 2014 amendments to the REACH Annexes by the European Commission, aimed at improving the efficacy of nanomaterial registration within the European Union's primary chemical regulation framework.

• REACH is the primary European Union regulation for managing health, safety, and environmental risks of chemicals, requiring producers, importers, and down-stream users to submit registration dossiers to the European Chemical Agency (ECHA).
• Current REACH Annexes lack nano-specific provisions, and existing registration dossiers do not contain information on nanoforms. Furthermore, REACH does not require the nano form of a substance to be registered separately from its non-nanoforms.
• In May 2014, the European Commission proposed amendments to the REACH annexes to the Competent Authorities Sub-group on Nanomaterials (CASG Nano) to ensure that the registration of nanomaterials is effective.
