A statement by civil society organizations calling for transparency and accountability from the World Bank's International Finance Corporation (IFC) regarding its proposed Remediation and Responsible Exit Framework.

• The World Bank's Committee on Development Effectiveness (CODE) is scheduled to debate the IFC's Remediation and Responsible Exit Framework on July 17, 2024. This framework is intended to outline how the institution provides remedies to communities harmed by its funded projects, marking the first such policy in the Bank's 80-year history.
• Civil society organizations demand that the IFC publish the framework before it is finalized to allow affected communities and the public to review the results of previous consultations and understand its implementation process, noting that the IFC has repeatedly delayed this publication.
• The statement calls for full transparency in the application of the remediation pilot to avoid the lack of disclosure seen in the Responsible Exit Principles pilot. Specifically, the IFC is urged to provide periodic reports on implemented frameworks, project lists, corrective measures, exit decisions, environmental and social impact assessments, and evidence of effective remediation.
• To maximize the effectiveness of the remediation framework, the signatories recommend that the IFC publish all loan agreements to clarify investment conditions and commitments, and implement board-led external reviews at the midpoint and conclusion of the pilot phase.
