Our Commitments to You During the COVID-19 Crisis

The Center for International Environmental Law (CIEL) announced the temporary closure of its Washington, DC and Geneva offices and the suspension of travel due to COVID-19. Despite these operational changes, CIEL committed to continuing its work in corporate and government accountability, human rights protection, and the inclusion of marginalized voices in virtual spaces.

• In response to COVID-19, CIEL has suspended in-person meetings and work travel, and has temporarily closed its physical offices located in Geneva and Washington, DC.
• CIEL has identified four primary commitments during the pandemic: holding governments and corporations accountable to prevent environmental destruction and human rights abuses, ensuring pandemic responses prioritize human rights, advocating for future-oriented solutions that avoid past problems, and ensuring virtual tools do not hinder the participation of marginalized communities.
• CIEL recognizes that while COVID-19 may be an inconvenience for some, it represents a significant threat that will worsen the precarious conditions for many people in various countries globally.
