• The Centre for Environmental Rights (CER) is seeking the suspension of a decision by the Minister of Mineral Resources and Energy to grant an amendment of mining rights for the Tormin Mine on the West Coast, based on an internal appeal lodged on 21 September 2020 under section 96(1) of the Mineral and Petroleum Resources Development Act, 2002 (MPRDA).
• Right holders opposed the suspension application on 14 October 2020, claiming the internal appeal is defective due to non-compliance with amended Regulation 74 of the MPRDA regulations that took effect on 27 March 2020.
