A letter from Atha-Africa Ventures (AAV) to the Mpumalanga Provincial Government requesting guidance on environmental and mitigation conditions to be included in its Environmental Management Programme for a mining right application within protected environments.

• AAV is requesting guidance from the Mpumalanga Department of Economic Development, Environment and Tourism (MDEDET) regarding specific environmental or mitigation conditions to include in its Environmental Management Programme, which requires approval from the Department of Mineral Resources (DMR).
• The Office of the MEC and MDEDET have indicated that the granting of a mining right would not necessarily result in an absolute prohibition of mining in the declared areas, though activities would be subject to strict environmental conditions.
