NOTICE OF INTENTION TO APPEAL

A legal notice dated 27 June 2016 in which eight environmental and social justice organisations announce their intention to appeal the environmental authorisation granted for the Yzermyn Underground Coal Mine in the Wakkerstroom district of Mpumalanga, South Africa.

• Eight organisations have filed a notice of intention to appeal the environmental authorisation granted to Atha-Africa Ventures (Pty) Ltd for the Yzermyn Underground Coal Mine. The appellants include EarthLife Africa Johannesburg, BirdLife South Africa, Mining and Environmental Justice Community Network of South Africa (MEJCON-SA), Endangered Wildlife Trust (EWT), Federation for a Sustainable Environment (FSE), GroundWork, Association for Water and Rural Development (AWARD), and the Bench Marks Foundation.
• The proposed Yzermyn Underground Coal Mine's surface infrastructure is planned for location on portion 1 of the farm Yzermyn 96 HT, situated within the Magisterial District of Wakkerstroom in the Mpumalanga Province.
