• A six-month moratorium on receiving prospecting applications will be implemented starting 1 September 2010 to allow for a comprehensive audit of licenses granted since the MPRDA's promulgation and to clean the database.
• The Department is pursuing legislative amendments to the MPRDA to address specific issues such as the 'packing order' in Chapter A, the transferability of rights under Section 11, the regulation of associated minerals, and the fragmentation of converted rights.
• Internal investigations revealed over 100 cases of apparent administrative irregularities among the 25,600 license applications handled since 2004. In response, Chief Directors will be deployed to regional offices as of 1 September 2010 to improve oversight.
