• The Department of Environmental Affairs amended the Environmental Authorisation (EA) for the 1200MW coal-fired IPP Thabametsi Power Station and its associated infrastructure, which was originally issued on 25 February 2015.
• Condition 10.2 of the EA was amended to specify that an appeal under section 43 of the National Environmental Management Act, 1998 will suspend the environmental authorisation or any attached provision or condition, prohibiting the commencement of activity until the appeal is finalised.
• The amendment includes the removal of condition 10.3 of the original environmental authorisation.
• The applicant is required to notify all registered interested and affected parties in writing within 14 days of the decision regarding the amendment and the provisions for submitting appeals.
