AFFIDAVIT

This document is an affidavit signed by Andrew Clifford Johnstone, Managing Director of GCS (Pty) Ltd, submitted to the High Court of South Africa. Johnstone confirms his professional qualifications in hydrogeology and environmental consulting and verifies that GCS produced both an original review (dated 18 November 2016) and a revised review (dated 1 December 2017) regarding the Yzermyn Colliery in Mpumalanga.

• Andrew Clifford Johnstone is a Professional Natural Scientist registered with the South African Council for Natural Scientific Professions (SACNASP) with over 30 years of experience in water and environmental consulting across Africa's mining, industrial, waste, oil, and agricultural sectors.
• GCS (Pty) Ltd authored a report titled "1WULA [integrated water-use licence application]. IWUL [integrated WUL] and Specialist Investigation Review of the Yzermyn Colliery Mpumalanga" on 18 November 2016.
• The Centre for Environmental Rights (CER) commissioned GCS to update its original review to incorporate a revised specialist report by Scientific Aquatic Services CC titled "Wetland Ecological Assessment as part of the Environmental Assessment and Authorisation Process for the proposed Yzermine (sic) Coal Mining Project" from May 2015.
• Following the commission by the CER, GCS produced a revised report dated 1 December 2017.
