• On 18 June 2004, the Minister of Minerals and Energy, Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka, designated the Petroleum Agency South Africa (Proprietary) Limited—also referred to as the South African Agency for the Promotion of Petroleum Exploration and Exploitation (Pty) Ltd—to carry out the functions specified in Chapter 6 of the Mineral and Petroleum Resources Development Act, 2002 (Act No. 28 of 2002).
• The designation allows the Petroleum Agency South Africa (Proprietary) Limited to perform any additional functions regarding petroleum as determined by the Minister of Minerals and Energy over time.
