The Centre for Environmental Rights (CER) wrote to the Minister of Mineral Resources on 1 March 2016, requesting the public disclosure of compliance monitoring and enforcement data for the mining sector. The CER notes that despite a parliamentary commitment by former Minister Advocate Ramatlhodi on 13 July 2015 to include mining sector data in the Department of Environmental Affairs' annual report, the 2014-2015 National Environmental Compliance and Enforcement Report (NECER) published in November 2015 contained no such information.

• The Centre for Environmental Rights (CER) argues that the Department of Mineral Resources' failure to make compliance monitoring and enforcement data public allows companies with significant environmental impacts to conceal their poor compliance status, which negatively affects local communities near mines and industrial sites.
• On 13 July 2015, former Minister of Mineral Resources Advocate Ramatlhodi stated in Parliament that the mining sector's environmental compliance and enforcement report would be integrated into the annual report published by the Department of Environmental Affairs.
• The 2014-2015 National Environmental Compliance and Enforcement Report (NECER), released by the Department of Environmental Affairs in November 2015, did not include any data regarding the Department of Mineral Resources' regulation of mining environmental impacts.
