MANDATE

A mandate letter dated 23 March 2022 in which Bobby Peek, Director of groundWork, authorizes the Centre for Environmental Rights (CER) to lodge an appeal under Section 43 of the National Environmental Management Act (NEMA) against the environmental authorization granted to the Musina Makhado Special Economic Zone (SOC) Ltd.

• Bobby Peek, acting as Director of groundWork, has authorized the Centre for Environmental Rights (CER) to take necessary steps to lodge an appeal under section 43 of the National Environmental Management Act, 1998 (NEMA).
• The appeal targets an environmental authorization granted on 23 February 2021 (referenced as EA ref 12/1/9/2-V79) under Regulation 25 of the NEMA Environmental Impact Assessment Regulations, 2014. This authorization allows the Musina Makhado Special Economic Zone (SOC) Ltd to conduct listed activities for the establishment of the Musina Makhado Special Economic Zone, Southern Site, located in the Vhembe District Municipality of Limpopo Province.
• The mandate includes authorization for CER to process personal information of groundWork and its members in compliance with the Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA), designating CER as the Responsible Party.
