This document is a draft written reply from the Minister of Water and Environmental Affairs to a National Assembly question (No. 2928) asked by Mr G R Morgan (DA) on 23 September 2011. The reply addresses the submission of corrective action plans by municipalities and water service authorities that performed inadequately in wastewater service management according to the 2011 Green Drop Report.

• Several Water Service Authorities (WSA) submitted corrective action plans to the Department of Water following the 2011 Green Drop Report. These include the Umzinyathi District Municipality and Uthukela Local Municipality in Kwazulu Natal, Mkhondo and Dr JS Moroka Local Municipalities in Mpumalanga, and the Dr Ruth Mopani District, Kgetlengrivier Local, and Ngaka Modiri Molema District Municipalities in North West, as well as the Cape Agulhas Local and Eden District Municipalities in the Western Cape.
• The Department of Water officially notified municipalities of the requirement to submit a corrective action plan as per the Green Drop report, but the municipalities that failed to comply did not provide reasons for their non-compliance.
• To address wastewater management, the Department completed training for inspectors for the Blue Drop 2012 reporting cycle, which incorporates an on-site verification process.
