• Short-term solutions for the Central and Eastern Basins focus on neutralising mine water to prevent underground water levels from reaching their respective Environmental Critical Levels (ECL), which are set at 186 metres below the surface for the Central Basin and 290 metres below the surface for the Eastern Basin.
• The proposed short-term solutions across all basins involve installing pumps to extract underground water and using neutralisation processes in treatment plants to remove heavy metals and adjust pH levels. Commissioning dates are projected for February 2012 (immediate) and August 2012 (short-term) for the Western Basin, August 2012 for the Central Basin, and February 2013 for the Eastern Basin.
