This document is a draft reply from the Minister of Water and Environmental Affairs to a written question (Question 3043) posed by Mr S J Masango (DA) in the National Assembly regarding the construction and commissioning of a water purification plant in the Victor Khanye municipality.

• The water purification plant at the Victor Khanye Local Municipality in Mpumalanga was completed on 30 June 2010. The construction was funded by the Mpumalanga Provincial Government and carried out by Moedi Consulting Engineers, Mkhwanazi Construction (Civil), Waterskilld Pty (Ltd), and Port Ferry Electrical.
• The total cost for the contract was R76 386 775.10, with an additional variation order of R5 788 254.83 due to an extended scope of work.
• Commissioning of the plant was scheduled for the first week of November 2011. Delays in commissioning after the 2010 completion were caused by necessary upgrades and refurbishment of the Delmas and Botleng Pump Stations. The plant is designed to purify water from 17 equipped boreholes: six from the A field, seven from the B field, and four from the C field.
